Old-Fashioned New England Winter Series | DIY Fire Starters

This time of year, I usually press the fast forward button in my mind and I daydream of lilacs, roses, and peonies. But this year, I am trying to slow down, be more present, and celebrate the winter season. To help keep my spirits up and make the most of Vermont winters, I created an old-fashioned New England winter series.

In part 1 of this winter series, I will share with you how to make simple fire starters that make the task of starting a fire in a wood stove more enjoyable.

*Collect and save up lint from the dryer and put some pieces at the bottom of an egg carton. This will make 12 individual fire starters.

*Add some bacon grease for a longer and hotter burn.

*Top off with evergreen twigs and pine cones.

*Finish the process by sealing every egg carton dimple and orifice with melted beeswax.

And there you have it. Simple and easy fire starters!
